Flunkyball ([ ˈflʌŋkiˌbɔːl ] or [ ˈflʊŋkiˌbal ]), also known as beer ball , is a drinking game in which two teams compete against each other.

Rules of the game

Sketch of a flunkyball field: Line up of teams A and B behind the baselines, target F in the middle

Two teams face each other, each lined up, at a distance of about 10 meters. Each player has a beer bottle or - dose standing on the floor in front of him. Between the two teams in the middle of the field there is a target, usually a quarter to half full PET bottle, which should be hit by a ball and overturned. The team with the ball has one attempt to hit the target with the ball. If the target falls over, the team that thrown may drink beer. The opposing team must set up the target again and bring the ball behind their own line. As soon as the opposing team has restored the field of play, it calls out "Stop", whereupon the team that threw has to interrupt the drinking process. When both teams are ready again, the other team may throw. As soon as a team has finished all beers, it has won the game.

Punish

Penalties can be given, for example, if a player starts drinking too early, continues drinking after the “stop” call, or vomits . Leaking beer (for example, because the bottle foams over or falls over) can be punished. Possible penalties can be an additional "penalty beer" for a player or the disqualification of a player or the whole team. Which action is considered a rule violation and how it is to be punished varies from place to place.

variants

The rules of Flunkyball differ from place to place and are often only determined at the beginning of the round or even during the game. The distances between the throwers and the target are variable. Sometimes you only have to set up the goal to end a round without bringing the ball behind your own line. Instead of a ball, a PET bottle can also be used as a throwing device. Instead of beer, the game can also be played with non-alcoholic drinks such as iced tea . The amount of the drink also varies. The scale ranges from standard 0.33 l beer bottles to 1.5 l containers.

distribution

Flunkyball is mostly played in summer in green areas such as parks. Flunkyball is also played at music festivals lasting several days , such as the Southside Festival , Area4 or Frequency . With the success of international student exchange programs and the growth in tourism, the game has spread across Europe.
