The Area4 Festival was a rock festival organized by FKP Scorpio from 2005 to 2012 . From 2007 it took place near Lüdinghausen in North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2011 around 20,000 visitors came to the three-day event.

On June 25, 2005, the Area4 Festival took place in front of around 10,000 spectators on the grounds of the König-Pilsener-Arena in Oberhausen . The bands The White Stripes and The Mars Volta canceled their appearances at relatively short notice.
Next year the festival should take place on the Borkenberge airfield in Lüdinghausen and last three days instead of just one day as in 2005. However, due to the cancellation of the European tour of the planned headliner Audioslave as well as another unnamed act, the decision was made to hold the event as a two-day festival in the Nordsternpark in Gelsenkirchen . Jimmy Eat World and Seeed were confirmed for it. Due to various difficulties, however, this small festival version was also canceled, so that in 2006 no Area4 took place at all.
Only in 2007 did the festival take place at Borkenberge airfield as planned. From August 24 to 26, 25 bands performed on one stage in front of around 10,000 spectators; 7,500 tickets were sold in advance. The band Silverchair had to cancel their performance due to food poisoning and a resulting hospital stay in France . Boozed was also absent due to illness .
The next Area4 festival took place from August 29th to 31st, 2008. In addition to the main stage, a smaller tent stage was also set up on the festival site, where Coca-Cola held the Soundwave Discovery Tour with newcomer bands. The Rockpalast was present as a presenter and recorded various appearances. These are sent in several episodes. In addition, the final of the Festival Soccer Cup 2008 was held at Festival Area4. In addition, the parking and camping areas were enlarged in order to be able to accommodate the approx. 15,000 visitors who had traveled. Slipknot had to cancel their performance at short notice due to a broken ankle of the drummer. As a replacement for Slipknot, Soulfly was confirmed on the Monday before Area4 .
In 2009 Area4 took place from August 21st to 23rd. More than 20,000 visitors came to this festival. Ill Scarlett canceled their performance ten days in advance. The organizers were able to win Everlaunch as an act.
For 2010, the weekend from August 20th to 22nd was chosen. More than 23,000 people took part in the festival.
The tickets for the festival taking place from August 19 to 21, 2011 cost 99 euros more than in the previous year, but the garbage deposit included rose from 5 to 10 euros and the bands appeared again on two stages. Since 2011, you have also had the option of choosing between normal camping and so-called "green camping". As an alternative to the information booklet in previous years, there has also been a festival app for Android and iOS since 2011 .
In 2012 the festival took place from August 17th to 19th.
On November 14, 2012, a sequel for 2013 was canceled due to cost reasons, as the festival had been in the red for years. Jasper Barendregt, festival director at organizer FKP Scorpio, said:
- “We really didn't make the decision easy for ourselves. But we've been in the red with AREA 4 for years. With the number of visitors in recent years, the ratio of demanding line-up, good infrastructure and affordable ticket prices has been financially at the expense of the organizers. As entrepreneurs, we cannot bear this imbalance forever. "
A day later, the organizer announced that they currently see no future for the festival.
