Louis XIV was a four-piece rock band from San Diego , California that formed in April 2003. With their major label debut The Best Little Secrets Are Kept they achieved a respectable success in 2005, the band has been dormant since the end of the 2000s.

history

Singers and guitarists Jason Hill and Brian Karscig as well as drummer Mark Maigaard had previously played together with the power pop band Convoy before they founded Louis XIV in April 2003. In Paris , the trio in 2003 recorded his debut album, which was released in the same year via Pineapple Recording. The band sold several thousand copies of the album and the two following EPs Pink and Blue , the track God Killed the Queen from the debut album received airplay on numerous US radio stations and on BBC Radio 1 . In 2004 a tour of the USA followed with The Killers . Later in 2004, Atlantic Records signed the band and in January 2005 the EP Illegal Tender followed . Some of the guitar and bass parts were played by James Armbrust, who has since been a permanent bassist for Louis XIV. The EP reached No. 36 in the Top Heatseekers , the first single Finding Out True Love is Blind was placed in the UK Top 75 . On March 22, 2005, the second studio album The Best Little Secrets Are Kept was released by Atlantic. Numerous tours and festival appearances followed, including in Germany at Area 4 and the Highfield Festival . The third album Slick Dogs And Ponies was released in 2008, and the band has been on hold since 2009.

In the following four years, Louis XIV made a few appearances, mostly referred to as "reunion shows". In 2013 there was another attempt at resuscitation and Louis XIV went on tour with The Killers through the USA and Europe. But even after that it became quiet again for the band. Singer and guitarist Jason Hill performed with The Killers in San Diego in September 2015 to play Louis XIV's hit single Finding Out True Love is Blind .

Music and lyrics

The band's music is considered garage rock with elements of glam rock . The sexually suggestive, sometimes pornographic texts were characteristic of the band . This brought her a temporary ban on performing in the US state of Alabama .
