Samavayo is a German rock band founded in 2000 , a special stoner rock band from Berlin . The word samavayo is Sanskrit , comes from sam + ava + i, "come together" and means unity, unity.

history

Samavayo was founded in 2000 by guitarist Marco Wirth, singer and guitarist Behrang Alavi and the brothers Stephan Voland (drums) and Andreas Voland (bass). The band played their first concert in the Kulturcentrum “Die Weiße Rose”, Berlin-Schöneberg. The first two EPs 131 (2003) and Songs from the Drop-Outs (2004) were released on the company's own label Setalight Records . The debut album Death.March.Melodies! (September 30, 2005) was released in digipack and in 2006 as 12 inch vinyl by Nasoni Records, Berlin. With the song Lovesick you could hear Samavayo for the first time on Berlin radio ( Motor FM ). After the release of their debut album, Samavayo played support shows for international rock bands, e. B. Soulfly , The Kooks , Biffy Clyro , Mustasch , Brant Bjork , Nebula . Between 2005 and 2010, Samavayo played around 350 concerts in Germany and Europe. Initially, Samavayo were incorporated into the stoner rock scene. With the EPs Black (Nasoni Records) and White (Sector B) released in 2008, which were produced by Kurt Ebelhäuser in Studio45 near Koblenz, the band was able to prove its independent rock sound. The single Neovenator from the EP White was played on various Berlin radio stations.

In 2008 and 2009 Samavayo played their biggest concerts to date in front of over 400,000 spectators in Berlin on the day of German reunification on the main stage at the Brandenburg Gate . They also performed in the tent at the Rock am Ring , Highfield , Hurricane , Melt (2009) and Area 4 (2008) festivals .

In 2010 the album One Million Things produced by Ken Jebsen , Marcus Birkle (live guitarist of Die Fantastischen Vier ) and Samavayo was released (February 19, 2010, Sector B / EMI Publishing). The singles Wait , Go and Rollin were played in rotation on some German radios. The videos for Wait and Go also ran on the music channel MTV . The single Rollin was the title song in the DTM trailer on the German TV channel DMAX during the 2010 season. With the song Tehran Girl , Samavayo committed himself to the Green Revolution in Iran . A portrait of the band, including an interview with singer Behrang Alavi, who was born in Iran, was broadcast on BBC Persia on the evening of June 12, 2009 following the election results shortly before the outbreak of the revolution . The video for the song, which was released shortly afterwards, shows the escalating violence on the streets of Tehran in the coming days. Samavayo was nominated for the Freedom to Create Award 2009 for the song and video. The album One Million Things was released in Iran in 2010, and Behrang Alavi was interviewed in the Iranian documentary Rock on Fans (director: Shahyar Kabiri).

In 2011, Cosmic Knockout , Samavayo's third album, was released. It's back to stoner rock and thinks back to the band's psychedelic roots. The album was recorded and produced in-house with the help of sound engineer Jens Güttes. Also appeared Cosmic Knockout again on their own label Setalight. In Iran, the album was released in January 2012 on Zurvan Records. In 2012, the fourth album, Soul Invictus, was released on Setalight in October . On the album is the first song by Samavayo with Persian lyrics, Roozhaye Roshan (English "Days of Light").

In 2012 the fourth album by Samavayo Soul Invictus was released , which strongly reflects on the roots. In 2013 guitarist Marco Wirth left the band. Samavayo released the split EP From East to West and Back Again in 2014 with the Croatian band One Possible Option .

In 2016, the fifth album Dakota was released , the debut album as a trio. The album was recorded and mixed by Richard Behrens (live soundman from Kadavar and ex-bassist from Samsara Blues Experiment ) in the Big Snuff Studio in Berlin in eleven days.

In 2018 the split EP The Fuzz Charger Split was released with the Swiss psychedelic blues stoner band Sons of Morpheus on the label sixteentimes / Deepdive Music. Samavayo contributed the three older songs "Rollin", "Chopper" and "Justify", Sons of Morpheus another three.

In the same year the band's 6th album "Vatan" was released on the Berlin independent music label Noisolution and Samavayo are included in the roster of the booking agency Sound Of Liberation, which u. a. Bands like Brant Bjork , Color Haze , My Sleeping Karma , Stoned Jesus and Greenleaf books.

style

The music of Samavayo is strongly based on the rock greats of the 1970s and 1990s. As the main influences are again and again Kyuss , Led Zeppelin , Black Sabbath , early Scorpions , tool or Queens of the Stone Age called. Typical for Samavayo are riff-based rock arrangements with melodic vocals and a presence of drums, such as the song Rollin from the second album One Million Things from 2010 or Prevarication Nation from the 2018 album Vatan.
