Dispatch is an independent band based out of the Boston , Massachusetts area . Stylistically, their music can be classified as a mixture of acoustic , rock , reggae , folk , ska and funk . They mainly publish on their own label Bomber Records .

history

Until 2005

The band started out under the name "One Fell Swoop". Since another band had the same name, they were forced to choose a new name, which should be "Dispatch". Pete Francis (real name: Pete Heimbold), Brad Corrigan and Chad Urmston are considered founding members. Their musical style was shaped by many live performances, which is why the band members moved from rural Vermont to the greater Boston area. During these performances, the musicians show their versatility by changing instruments more often (the instruments remain in their place on the stage). In addition, guests, extended solos, covers and improvisations are always incorporated into their concerts. As an independent band, they do not have the marketing power of a label at their disposal; rather, their notoriety has increased through file sharing and word-of-mouth. The band also made their latest album completely freely available on YouTube.

In the first few years the band released four albums, the style evolving from acoustic albums to recordings with band and electronic guitars. In 2002 they separated and went their own way, as they could not agree on the further development of the band. Their joint career ended in 2004 with the largest ever open-air concert, the Independent Festival 2004 in Boston (Hatch Shell). An estimated 166,000 people came to this concert, although only 20,000 to 30,000 visitors were expected in advance. The concert was released as a set consisting of a double CD and a DVD called All Points Bulletin . The band's history was recorded in 2005 as a documentary called The Last Dispatch .

Benefit concerts for Zimbabwe

In January 2007, the band announced on their website and Myspace page that they would be performing in July 2007 at Madison Square Garden , New York . Since the tickets were sold out within a few hours, it was decided to have another concert on the same weekend. This also sold out so quickly that a third was added. This led to the three concerts on July 13th, 14th and 15th. These three concerts were benefit concerts for Zimbabwe and were then released via streaming, CD and DVD. It is estimated that over $ 2 million will be raised directly into Zimbabwe's development aid. This was organized with the help of the "Dispatch Foundation" and the "Elias Foundation".

Band member Chad Urmston was in Zimbabwe in 1994 and made friends with a gardener named Elias. This created the dispatch song Elias , which was the hook of the 2007 concerts.

As of 2011

For the summer of 2011, Dispatch announced a reunion tour on their homepage and with several tweets. A total of nine dates took her across the United States from June to September. To express their thanks to the numerous fans, there was a pre-sale for the fans: those who were registered in the newsletter were given a password with which they could purchase tickets for the concerts from January 20, 2011 - within five For days five concerts were already sold out in advance, so there were more concerts. At the same time as the tour was announced, the band let it be known that they were working on new songs in the studio. On May 17, 2011, an EP with six new songs was released, which within hours went to second place on the iTunes album charts.

In December 2011 the band announced a short series of performances in Europe. In Germany concerts were given in Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Dortmund.

Dispatch at the Hurricane Festival 2014

Over a decade after their last album, Dispatch released their album Circle Around the Sun in August 2012 . In the same year the band toured North America. Recordings of this tour were released in June 2013 on the double live CD Ain't No Trip to Cleveland Vol. 1 . Several concerts followed in summer 2013 before the band announced in autumn 2014 that they were working on another album. In 2015 the band only gave one concert in North America: a benefit concert at Madison Square Garden in aid of hunger in America called DISPATCH: HUNGER . Due to the high demand, another concert was played on July 10th, one day before the original date.

The band returned to Europe in June and July 2016 when concerts were played in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. In February 2017, the band released a new song, Only The Wild Ones, and announced a new album and tour of the United States and Europe. The album America, Location 12 was finally released on June 2, 2017. Concerts followed in Munich, Hanover, Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Linz, Vienna and Zurich, among others. During the appointments in Europe, Dispatch was accompanied by Current Swell .

As of 2017

Due to the health condition of founding member Pete Francis Heimbold (depression), the band decided to go on tour without him. Matt Embree, Mike Sawitzke and Jon Reilly have toured with Chad Urmston and Brad Corrigan instead since America Location 12 was released . During the tour and while recording the album, several songs were created. In June 2018 Dispatch started releasing a new song every two weeks. The album America Location 13 is released with the eleventh song . The planned release day of the album is November 9, 2018.

Solo projects of the band members

  • Pete Francis started his solo career at the time of Dispatch in 2001. Musically, the music is a mixture of pop and rock. By 2015 he had released nine records.
  • Chad Urmston formed State Radio after Dispatch was disbanded in 2002 , initially known as the Flag of the Shiners. According to their own statements, their music is a mixture of the group Rage Against the Machine and Bob Marley . Other band members are Chuck Fay (bass) and Mike Najarian (drums). By 2012 the band had released five studio albums. He also released two solo records in 2011 and 2015: Simmerkane II and The Horse Comance .
  • Brad Corrigan started thinking back in 2003 to the acoustic roots of Dispatch. His style describes calm, melodic acoustic music. In the meantime a permanent line-up of the group "Braddigan" has formed: Brad Corrigan (vocals, guitar), Rinaldo de Jesus (drums) and Tiago (bass). They released three studio albums between 2005 and 2013.
