Chad (Chadwick) Stokes Urmston (born February 26, 1976 in Sherborn , Massachusetts ) is a member of the American independent band Dispatch and the band leader of the band State Radio . Stokes is best known for his success with Dispatch, where he has been a member of one of the most successful independent bands worldwide between 1996 and 2004 and since 2011.

Stokes is known for his political texts, which especially critically examine the American government.

After high school Urmston went to Zimbabwe in 1994 , where he met his future friend "Elias", a Zimbabwean gardener. The band Dispatch dedicated the song of the same name to him. This song gained great popularity over time, so that Dispatch gave the benefit concert "Dispatch: Zimbabwe" in 2007 and played it for three nights in sold out Madison Square Garden. Urmston worked from 1996 to 2004 in the band Dispatch, which then broke up due to musical differences, but continues to perform together sporadically.

After Dispatch, Chad Urmston founded the band State Radio in 2002 (initially under the name “Flag of the Shiners”), which has released three albums so far and is particularly noticeable for its political lyrics. Bassist Chuck Fay and drummer Mike Najarian also play on State Radio.

In 2011 he released his first solo album Simmerkane II under the name Chadwick Stokes. In 2015 the second pure solo album The Horse Comanche will follow.
