Bondage Fairies is a Swedish band founded in 2005 that combines alternative rock and punk with the 8-bit sounds of the C64 . The band's name was taken from a pornographic manga series , which the band denies in interviews to this day.

history

Elvis Creep and Deus Deceptor founded the Bondage Fairies in Stockholm in 2005 . In the same year, the two released their first single He-Man on vinyl. On January 20, 2006, their first album What You Didn't Know When You Hired Me was released on Lobotom Records. In 2008, the single Garbage Indiebands followed on vinyl, which can also be found on their second album Cheap Italian Wine , which was also released on September 8, 2009 on Lobotom Records.

The third single 1-0 was released on April 8, 2011 by Audiolith Records exclusively as an MP3 download and contains two hitherto unknown songs as well as a remix by Der Tante Renate of the track nv4.dll and an acoustic version of Forget the Image I Got a heart . The band's first official music video was also shot for this single in Hamburg . The new drummer Drummer Boy was involved in the recordings for the first time; A short time later, a fourth member, Bee Bee Prime, was accepted into the band, who has since played guitar instead of Elvis Creep. After another single ( Fantasy Outfit ) was released on SoundCloud on December 23, 2011 , the third album called Bondage Fairies was released on January 20, 2012. Before this, USB memory sticks were deposited as dead drops in house walls in several European and American cities which contained a picture of the respective city. This enabled one of 17 parts of the new track Morphine to be unlocked on the band's official website , which was finally available as a free download.

Among other things through numerous live performances, which are characterized by a somewhat idiosyncratic stage show, the band created a considerable fan base , particularly in some Eastern European countries, but also in Germany and the USA. The band members wear self-made masks on photos and on the stage.

In 2014 the Bondage Fairies made a remix for the EP Big Eyes for Bad Prospects by the duo Schafe & Wölfe from Lemgo for their piece Revolution .

style

music

Characteristics of the Bondage Fairies are fast guitar riffs , underlaid with electronically generated melodies that are reminiscent of the sound of the sound chip of C64 computers . Voice samples are also often used. With the exception of Gay Wedding , which works almost completely without electronic elements, the drums on the first two albums were exclusively produced electronically, while the drums for the third album were mostly recorded in the studio.

Texts

Elvis Creep is responsible for the lyrics. While there are some mainly shorter pieces without any (sung) lyrics ( I Eat Children , Aachen von Essen ), many of the lyrics deal with his love life ( Forget the Image I Got a Heart , Morphine ) and trivial things ( He-Man , nv4 .dll ). In some cases, however, political issues are also dealt with ( Gay Wedding , Twenty Twelve ), although the band says they prefer to keep music and politics separate. In general, the texts are usually very short and leave a lot open if they are not intentionally completely meaningless ( Äppeltysken ).
