Jingo de Lunch is a German rock band that was founded in April 1987 in Berlin . With a woman's voice in the foreground and only English lyrics, she plays a mixture of hard rock and punk .

Band name

In an interview on September 3, 2007 in the punk show "New Rose Radio" on the Berlin open channel, Yvonne Ducksworth and Henning Menke explained the origin and meaning of the name. In search of a name, they would have leafed through an English dictionary until they came across the word " Jingo ", which means "chauvinistic, patriotic, aggressive person". “De Lunch” means something like “throw up”.

history

Jingo de Lunch was founded in Berlin. Front woman Yvonne Ducksworth originally came from Canada and had, like guitarists Josef Ehrensberger and Tom Schwoll and bassist Henning Menke, gained experience in various punk and heavy metal bands. Steve Hahn came from the punk scene around Lake Constance . In 1987 the band recorded their debut album Perpetuum Mobile in just seven days . Shortly afterwards, she won a young talent competition advertised by the Berlin Senate. The band was welcomed by the independent scene and released albums on a regular basis. Jingo de Lunch played in the opening act for bands like Ramones , Bad Brains , Rollins Band , Motörhead and Die Toten Hosen .

However, the commercial breakthrough did not materialize. Tom Schwoll left the band in 1994 and switched to Extrabreit . In 1997 the other band members also went their separate ways. Yvonne Ducksworth moved to the United States, and Steve Hahn became a roadie with the Toten Hosen. Henning Menke and Joseph Ehrensberger also joined other bands.

In the summer of 2006, Jingo de Lunch went on tour through Germany, Austria and Italy with the old line-up. In 2007, The Independent Years , a compilation of their old songs, came out. In December 2007 Joseph Ehrensberger left the band for personal reasons. The group decided to continue as a quartet. Since 2008 Jingo de Lunch have been working on new songs, which were released in 2010 on the album Land of the Free-ks . In May and June 2008 the band gave several concerts in Germany and Spain. Jingo de Lunch was supported by guitarist Tico Zamora during performances and jam sessions. Since 2009 Tom Schwoll and Tico Zamora have been replaced by the new guitarist Gary Schmalzl. In 2011 the album Live in Kreuzberg was released.

The band split up in September 2012.
