Disco Ensemble is a post-hardcore band from the Finnish city of Ulvila , which is also associated with punk rock and indie rock .

history

The band was founded in the late 1990s by Jussi Ylikoski and Mikko Hakila under the name Disco. They later expanded their name because of equality with the Finnish pop duo Disco . Koivisto has been the singer since 2000. The debut album Viper Ethics was released in 2003 and already contained a Finnish top 20 chart single with videotapes . Both the second album First Aid Kit (2005) and the two released singles We Might Fall Apart and Black Euro reached the Finnish top ten. The track Black Euro was used as an intro song for the PC console game Moto GP 08 from Capcom .

In addition to regular concerts in Scandinavia, the band has toured several times through Europe, especially Germany, Switzerland and Great Britain. In the summer of 2006, Disco Ensemble played at several European open-air festivals (e.g. Rock am Ring and Rock im Park in Germany, Nova Rock in Austria, Hultsfredfestival in Sweden, Roskilde Festival in Denmark, OpenAir St. Gallen in the Switzerland). In autumn 2006 a European tour took place together with Gogol Bordello and Danko Jones , which led through seven countries. In December they toured Germany as the opening act for Madsen . They also appeared in January 2008 as the support act at concerts in Germany for Linkin Park . This year they also toured with the Donots .

On May 9, 2008, the band released their third studio album, called Magic Recoveries . The single releases were Bad Luck Charm and headphones , each of which was accompanied by a video.

In May 2009 the EP Back on the MF Street was released . In addition to four recordings not used on the Magic Recoveries album ( Back on the MF street , Golden Years , The Alps and Abandoned ), it also included two remixes of the single Bad Luck Charm . The song Golden Years was used on the PC console game "NHL 10" as part of the soundtrack.

On February 24, 2010, the first single White Flag for Peace of the as yet unnamed new album was released. The second single Protector was offered as a free download. The album The Island of Disco Ensemble was released on May 26, 2010 on Fullsteam Records. The band presented it later that year on a European tour.

At the beginning of 2012 Disco Ensemble announced their new album for autumn, on August 22nd the first single Second Soul was released, the associated album Warriors on September 21st.

The soundtrack for the German comedy Kokowääh 2 from 2013 by and with Til Schweiger comes from the band, among others. In August / September 2013, the band gave 12 concerts in Germany.

When things had calmed down a bit after the release of Warriors , the band announced in October 2014 that singer Miikka Koivisto was working on individual projects under the name Hisser and guitarist Jussi Ylikoski under the name Big Pharma . However, that should not mean that Disco Ensemble is finished. The albums Hisser (Miikka Koivisto, Hisser ) and Freedom Juice (Jussi Ylikoski, Big Pharma) were released in 2015.

In October 2016, Disco Ensemble released the single Fight Forever, which heralds the upcoming album Afterlife , which was released on January 27, 2017.
