Focus migration

focus Migration is an online publication series published by the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at the University of Osnabrück and the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb). The contributions appear as part of the migration dossier on the bpb website and are also sent to around 4,000 subscribers by email. focus Migration comprises “policy briefs” and “country profiles”. They serve to provide scientifically proven information on the topic of migration and integration for political education and public discussion. In doing so, they want to contribute to the objectification of the often emotional debate about immigration. The editor-in-chief is migration historian Jochen Oltmer.

Country profiles

The country profiles ( ISSN  1864-6220 ) summarize historical and current developments in the areas of immigration, flight, asylum and integration in a certain country in a short and clear form. So far (as of March 2014) 28 country profiles have been published in German and English.

Policy Brief

The policy briefs ( ISSN  1864-5704 ) offer an overview of specific topics relating to migration and integration. Various aspects, scientific positions and backgrounds are highlighted and further literature references and web links are suggested for in-depth discussion of the respective topic. The articles appear in German and English. So far (as of March 2014) 24 policy briefs have been published.

Authors and target audience

The authors of the contributions are on the one hand migration researchers from home and abroad such as Ludger Pries , Ahmet İçduygu, Christina Boswell or Thomas Straubhaar . In addition, young academics also write for the magazine. The target group of the online publication series includes, in particular, journalists, holders of public offices, scientists and other multipliers, but also the public interested in migration issues. The contributions serve as a template for teaching materials on the topic of migration.

The publishers

The Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) operates u. a. promoting an understanding of political issues, strengthening democratic awareness and strengthening the willingness to participate in politics. The Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) is an interdisciplinary and interfacultative research institute at the University of Osnabrück . It was founded in 1991 on the initiative of Germany's most famous migration researcher, Klaus J. Bade . As part of the IMISCOE research network, the institute cooperates with other European migration research institutes.
