Foguang Temple (Wutai)

Foguang Temple

The Buddhist Foguang Temple ( 佛光 寺 , Fóguāng Sì , literally "Temple of Buddhist Splendor" or "Buddhaglorioles Monastery") is located in the village of Foguang in the Doucun district of Wutai County in the Chinese province of Shanxi , 25 km southwest near Wutai -Berg . It was first built during the Northern Wei Dynasty . Its main hall dates from 857 of the Tang Dynasty . It is considered to be one of the oldest wooden structures in Chinese temple construction.

The temple has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (1-80) since 1961 and a World Heritage Site in 2009 .
