Folk Research Center

The Folk Research Center ( FRC , Plas Wíchès Foklò ) is a research facility in St. Lucia that has been dedicated to documenting and researching everyday culture since it was founded in 1973. a. the rich tradition of the orally transmitted stories of the "koudmen", the Afro-Caribbean Creole- speaking (older) islanders of St. Lucia.

The center was founded by Monsignor Patrick Anthony (* 1947). It has a sound archive and the most important library in the country. It offers language courses on local Kwéyòl and has held the Jounen Kwéyòl , Creole Day, one of the most important popular festivals on St. Lucia, every year since 1984 . The Folk Research Center has been based on Mount Pleasant above the old town of Castries since 1999 . It has been published by the Lucian Kaiso magazine since 1990 . In 2017 the center was renamed in honor of its founder. In 2018, the original building on Calvary Road in Castries burned out completely. A restart is in progress in the buildings of the former Monroe College on Barnard Hill .
