Folke the fat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Folke the Fat ( Folke den tjocke ) was a Swedish nobleman of the 12th century.

Folke the fat is referred to by Saxo Grammaticus in the Gesta Danorum as Sueticae gentis nobilissimus (most noble of the Swedish people) in the early 12th century and "was in possession of large estates and solid castles in the Göthalanden". He was married to Ingegärd Knutsdotter of Denmark, a daughter of the Danish King Knut IV. The Saint . After Saxo, the marriage resulted in two sons, Bengt Snivil and Knut Folkesson; Saxo names Birger Brosa as his grandson , whose father was Bengt Snivil after Olaus Petri . According to another source, his sons were Bengt Snivil and Magnus Minneskjöld .
