The National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene (yidd. "Volksbühne") is a Yiddish theater in New York . According to the company, it is the oldest existing theater in the city and one of five Yiddish theaters worldwide.

The Folksbiene Theater was founded in the Lower East Side in 1915 , when this area of Manhattan was still predominantly populated with Jewish immigrants. Since 1998 it has been a non-profit organization with around 100 performances per season . The performances are in Yiddish with English and, if desired, Russian surtitles . Today the artistic director is Zalmen Mlotek.
