FooBillard is a free billiards - computer game .

It is characterized by its detailed OpenGL graphics and the special control adapted to billiards. Originally developed by Florian Berger for Linux , there are now ports to Windows , macOS , SkyOS and Android .

The game is in English and can be played in pairs on one computer, in the network and against the computer.

The current version 3.0a supports the billiard variants 8 ball, 9 ball, carom and snooker .

The pool table

After you have started the game, a small text menu is available in the foreground. In the background, a wooden table covered with balls with a gold cover and gold diamonds is waiting for the game to start. The following table sizes are available: 7 feet, 8 feet, 9 feet and 12 feet. In addition, the billiard table cloth colors gold-green, gold-red, chrome-blue, black-and-white and black-beige can be configured in the menu. After starting the game, the player can view the table from any perspective in the free view mode.

The balls

Depending on the variant, there are initially a different number of reflective billiard balls on the table. In the game menu, the reflections and the details of the balls can be set to low (little), medium (medium), high (high) or very high (very high). The detailed circuit of the balls is directed according to the distance. The behavior of the balls (e.g. when they collide) is displayed realistically.

The free view mode and the zoom in / out function

The views of the table and the balls can be changed. The events can be displayed and followed three-dimensionally from every perspective. The cue ball view can be precisely controlled with the mouse buttons. You can look at it from different perspectives and aim at a desired ball or a position on the table. If you roll the mouse forwards or backwards and press the right mouse button, the view of the cue ball can be zoomed in and out.

The guide line

FooBillard is equipped with a guide that runs vertically through the center of the cue ball. This is mainly used for beginners and can be switched off.

The swing beam

There is a swing bar in the lower middle of the screen. This can be used to determine the speed and strength of the shock. It can be turned up and down with the arrow keys or the mouse wheel. You can shoot with the space bar as well as by pressing the mouse wheel or with the middle mouse button.

The computer generated opponent

If there is no human player available, a game against the computer is possible. The strength of the computer generated opponent (excellent, good, medium, bad or very bad) can be configured.

The tournament

Individual games against the computer are a bit boring in the long run. Therefore FooBillard has a tournament mode (tournament mode), with which the player can compete in knockout mode against the virtual opponents.
