Food Force is an educational game published by the United Nations World Food Program WFP in 2005. According to its content, it is a serious game (game with a learning background). Players start missions to distribute food in a hunger stricken country and help it to recover and to act again on its own. At the same time they get to know the subject of hunger in the real world and the work of the WFP to prevent it.
Gameplay
The game takes place on the fictional island of Sheylan in the Indian Ocean, which is suffering from drought and civil war. The player is a new member of a team of UN experts, including a nutritionist, a logistics officer, a pilot, and the director of grocery purchasing.
The game contains six missions:
- Air Surveillance: Finding Hungry Citizens in a Helicopter
- Nutritional Packages: Create a balanced diet of rice, oil, beans, sugar, and salt on a budget of just 30 cents a day
- Air drops: Food drops in a target zone with an assessment of the wind direction
- Purchasing and Shipping: Coordinating deliveries of purchased and donated food from around the world
- Distribute Food: Lead a convoy of groceries to a depot, with hazards such as land mines and roadblocks along the way
- The future of agriculture: through food aid to develop a village over 10 years, through investment, training, "food for work" and treatment for HIV / AIDS
Most missions in arcade-oriented gameplay are time-limited. All six missions can be played in less than an hour. Players can upload the score of their games and compare it to other players online.

The game is freely available in versions for Windows and Macintosh. Linux users can install it with Wine . The game was developed by the British studio Playerthree and the Italian company Deepend. The program uses Macromedia for the game and QuickTime for the videos.
