Foosaner Art Museum (previously Brevard Art Museum) is an art museum in Melbourne , Florida.

history

The Brevard Art Center and Museum was founded in 1978 , in the same year a building was acquired and extensively converted for use as a museum. In 1980 the building was expanded to include an adjacent building. In the 1990s, the museum experienced a decline, so that even a closure or rededication was considered. The museum was attached to the Florida Institute of Technology and was given its current name after a donation from Samuel J. Foosaner.

collection

The museum shows American and European art from the 19th and 20th centuries and organizes exhibitions on contemporary artists. It also houses part of Ernst Oppler's estate .
