The Forces républicaines de Côte d'Ivoire ( FRCI , French for Republican Forces of the Ivory Coast ) are an Ivorian military organization.

history

They were launched by Alassane Ouattara on March 17, 2011 during the 2010/2011 government crisis . They are to act as the Ivory Coast's new armed forces and replace the old army dominated by Laurent Gbagbo . The basis of the new army is the Ouagadougou Treaty of 2007, which marked the end of the civil war from 2002 to 2007 and in which Article 3 calls for the dissolution of all militias and their integration into a new army.

The FRCI are made up of the Forces Nouvelles de Côte d'Ivoire , which have controlled the northern half of Ivory Coast since 2003, and some parts of the government armed forces.

In a decree, Ouattara ordered all members of the Ivory Coast military to submit themselves to the FRCI.

The troops are to be led by a commander in chief, March 2011 Michel Gueu , and his representative.

Officers

Well-known field commanders of the FRCI are:

  • Issiaka Ouattara called "Wattao"
  • Chérif Ousmane
  • Adama Camara
