Fordell's Lodging

Fordell's Lodging is a residential building in the Scottish town of Inverkeithing in the Council Area Fife . In 1972 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

Fordell's Lodging was built between 1666 and 1671 as the town house of the wealthy merchant John Henderson of Fordell , whose headquarters were Tower House Fordell Castle . Like the nearby Thomson's House , it is considered a significant example of bourgeois townhouse architecture in Inverkeithing in the 17th century. Fordell acted as provost and sheriff of Inverkeithing. In the 1920s, Fordell's Lodging was remodeled to become the meeting house of Inverkeithing Parish Church across the street .

description

The residential building is on High Street in the center of Inverkeithing. The Inverkeithing Market Cross was once nearby, but was moved in 1974. The two-story building with a mansard floor has an L-shaped floor plan. Its facades with natural and rubble details are plastered with Harl . There are twelve-part lattice windows . A bay window with a conical roof protrudes from the edge of the street . The staircase that leads to the entrance door on the upper floor on the north side also dates from the 20th century, as does an extension at the rear. The final, steep gable roof is covered with gray slate. Its gables are designed as a simple stepped gable .
