As Fordyce glands harmless are free sebaceous glands called that are located in an unusual place of the body ( heterotopic / ectopic ). They were named after John Addison Fordyce (1858–1931), an American dermatologist . These glands can reach a size of one to five millimeters. They mostly occur in the area of ​​the oral mucosa , lips , penis , scrotum or vulva . They are called free sebum glands because they have no connection with a hair.
