Vulva with marked clitoral hood (1)

Clitoral hood ( Latin: Praeputium clitoridis ) is a fold of skin in the vulva that covers the glans of the clitoris, the glans clitoridis, and the clitoris shaft, the corpus clitoridis, as the outer, visible part of the clitoris . It provides a ventral ( anterior ) Extension of the labia minora , labia minora pudenda, and may be considered anatomically as of this part. This upper part of the labia minora forms on the one hand (medially) the clitoral ligament, frenulum clitoridis, and laterally, branching out on both sides, the hood-like covering of the clitoris, the clitoral hood. The clitoral hood opens ventrally into the mons pubis . The function of the clitoral hood is to protect the glans of the clitoris below; the direct equivalent in the male is the foreskin of the penis .

Expression

The size and shape of the clitoris as well as the foreskin varies greatly from person to person, so the glans can be partially or completely covered or even exposed. The clitoral hood, in turn, can be covered by the labia majora or protrude.

The Praeputium clitoridis is created in the same way as the male foreskin of the penis ( Praeputium penis ) in embryos with a crown-rump length of 55 to 60 mm .

In most mammals the clitoral hood is adherent to the glans clitoris, in horses and dogs surrounds the prepuce of the clitoris , a dimple clitoral fossa , where the glans is exposed. In humans, an adhesion has a disease value and is known as clitoral adhesion .

Clitoral hood piercing

Piercing the clitoral hood

A clitoral hood piercing is a form of clitoral piercing . A piercing is applied horizontally or vertically through the foreskin. The piercing has a lust-increasing effect.

Clitoral hood reduction

Clitoral hood reduction refers to the removal or shortening of the clitoral hood. The clitoral hood reduction is justified cosmetically and partly also functionally.
