‣ Topic  overview

A clitoral hood piercing is a female genital piercing through the clitoral hood . It can be engraved both vertically and horizontally. The combination of both piercings is also possible. Unlike clitoral piercing , the clitoris itself is not pierced.

distribution

The clitoral hood piercing is the most popular and widespread among female genital piercings. Piercing has also enjoyed strong demand in recent years among women and girls - the consent of their legal guardians is required for under 14-year-olds - who otherwise show little reference to the area of body modification . This is due to several factors: the ease of implementation, the relatively fast healing time and the comfort for most women. A vertically pierced piercing increases the sensitivity of the clitoris, while a horizontal piercing offers additional aesthetic appeal through good visibility. The foreskin is easy to pierce and it takes about four to six weeks to heal. As a rule, it hardly causes any problems during healing. See also stimulation and sexual effects .

execution

As with the piercing of the inner labia , the anatomical requirements are not met in some women; when there isn't enough tissue to keep the piercing from growing out. Feasibility and possible alignment (horizontal or vertical) should be clarified in the preliminary discussion with the piercer, but with most women one of the two variants of piercing is possible.

Horizontal

This piercing is only suitable for women who have enough tissue above the clitoris and whose foreskin is not completely covered by the outer labia. The shape and symmetry of the foreskin are also important in keeping the piercing from twisting or pinching. The piercing should be pierced with a pair of pliers, whereby the clitoris must not be included. If there is enough tissue, horizontal piercings can also be worn several times. However, the stimulatory effect will not increase to the same extent as the purely visual one.

Vertical

Correct placement of the vertical clitoral hood piercing

Correct positioning is especially important with vertical clitoral hood piercing: a mistake often made by inexperienced piercers is positioning the piercing canal too flat or too far forward. The piercing tends to grow out and the often desired contact with the clitoris does not come about. This misplacement often occurs when working with clamp pliers. The piercing must also not be placed too close to the edge of the foreskin, it should be at least one centimeter between the puncture channel and the edge of the foreskin. A puncture canal that enters the deepest part of the foreskin, at the transition between the clitoris and the foreskin, is ideal. Often a receiving tube is held against the piercing in order to catch the needle.

Jewellery

In the case of horizontal piercing, a small so-called ball closure ring (BCR) (clamping ball ring ) is used as jewelry , which should be chosen so that the ball lies directly on the clitoris . This is considered sexually very exciting and emotionally intense. In the vertical variant, a barbell is usually used, the lower ball of which also rests directly on the clitoris and is therefore also judged to be sexually arousing.

Variations in piercing

Combination of vertical and horizontal variant - mostly ring worn horizontally and barbell worn vertically

Usually, the piercing in its vertical or horizontal variant is stung in the manner described above. In addition, there are other possible variations, for example by combining two piercings with a deeper stitch.

Combination of horizontal and vertical piercing

It is possible to combine both a horizontal and a vertical piercing, provided that the anatomical requirements are available. The clitoral hood must have enough tissue so that the two piercings do not exert pressure on each other, otherwise one or both piercings may grow out.

Diana piercing

This is a not completely vertical clitoral hood piercing, rather the piercing is pierced at a slight angle. The piercing is usually done in pairs for aesthetic reasons. The implementation is comparable to the vertical variant, but slightly curved jewelry ( curved barbell ) is recommended . Here, too, there must be enough tissue for a correct implementation.

Deep hood piercing

Deep hood piercing: pierced vertically, the upper ball lies further forward

A deep hood refers to a deeper clitoral hood piercing. This can be done with the horizontal as well as with the vertical variant. Horizontally, the deep hood resembles the triangle piercing , whereby it is pierced further forward. The puncture channel runs under the clitoris shaft without touching it. In the vertical version, the Deep Hood is a kind of short version of a Nefertiti piercing : the upper ball is roughly at the point where the lower ball of a Christina piercing is.

Stimulation and sexual effects

In particular, the vertical clitoral hood piercing is perceived by most women as very pleasurable and pleasant. In a scientific study at the University of South Alabama , women who wore this piercing were asked about the effects of the piercing using a before-and-after survey. For this purpose, two questionnaires were filled out by the test subjects, both before and a few months after the piercing. It was found that the piercing both increased sexual desire and increased excitability. Afterwards, the women had significantly more sexual intercourse. The piercing increases the sensitivity of the clitoris, this is probably achieved by lifting the clitoral hood, combined with better accessibility of the clitoris, as well as by means of direct stimulation through the piercing. The piercing could not be proven to have any influence on other measurements (e.g. lubrication , frequency and intensity of orgasm, pain). Since a clitoral hood piercing is worn all the time, it could cause permanent sexual arousal. This should especially be considered by women who do not want to wear this piercing for sexual reasons, but for optical or aesthetic reasons.
