Ice pigeon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ice pigeons are a domestic pigeon breed . They got their name from their plumage color .

origin

The ice pigeon is one of the oldest German colored pigeons . The dark-eyed colors come from Saxony , the red-eyed from Silesia and Lusatia . The smooth-footed hammered ice pigeon (also trout pigeon) comes from Silesia or southern Germany .

Appearance

Hammered, black tie

The ice pigeon has a strong, low- lying field pigeon shape . The head is oblong and smooth with a short neck stretched slightly forward. The eye color is yellow to orange-red in the black and hammered, dark in the other colors. The edge of the eye is narrow and dark gray in all of them. The beak is of medium length, thin and dark. The ice pigeon has a broad chest. The back is broad and only slopes slightly towards the tail . This is of medium length and is worn almost horizontally. The wings are of medium length and are not carried crossing on the tail. The legs and feet are in the belatschten unbefiedert very spring-rich and dense, on glattfüßigen.

Colors

Scaly white

The basic color is a very delicate ice blue with a lot of feather dust (powder). All colors are smooth-footed and belatscht. The lower plumage is greyish in all colors. The base color appears white due to the plumage powder. The only exception are drawing colors. The wings and the tail band should be as dark as possible. A light-colored border must remain behind the tail band.

Ice pigeons are available in hollow, white-tie, white-scaled, porcelain-colored, black-tie and hammered.

  • hollow:
Without any drawing on the wing shield.
  • white tie:
The wing shields have two parallel, narrow, white bands, which are lined with black at the rear edge.
  • scaly white:
The wing shields have triangular, white, blackish-lined scales, which alternate with triangles of the basic color.
  • porcelain colored:
The drawing of the wing shields resembles that of the scaled ones; but the flaking color shows a delicate shade of pink. White polka dots are required as mirror points on the wings of the hand and, if possible, on every feather in the tail band. In the wings, reeds and rust that are not visible from the outside are permitted; light back and mountain pines markings are permitted.
  • black bond:
The wing shields have two parallel, narrow black bands.
  • hammered:
The wing shields have triangular, black hammers, which alternate with triangles of the basic color.

Ring size

  • belatched: 11
  • smooth-footed: 7

special instructions

The large amount of plumage powder, which is a breed characteristic of the ice pigeon and through which the ice color develops, can make it impossible for people with respiratory problems or allergies to breed ice pigeons.
