Forrières ( Walloon Forire ) is a village in the Belgian municipality of Nassogne in the province of Luxembourg in the Walloon Region .

The Lomme River flows through the town, which has 1246 inhabitants (as of 2006) . Forrières is on the Namur – Luxembourg railway line , which connects Brussels via Namur to Luxembourg .

history

The first documentary mention comes from the year 746. The settlement history is, however, much older, so several prehistoric tombs were found in the vicinity. In 1636 the plague also raged in Forrières. In the village is the Saint Martin Church , which was built in the 17th century . In the course of a municipal reform in 1977, the previously independent municipality Forrières became part of the municipality of Nassogne.

Personalities

The Belgian astronomer and astrophysicist Paul Ledoux (1914–1988) was born in Forrières .
