Research institute for leather and synthetic sheets

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Research Institute for Leather and Synthetic Sheets ( FILK ) is a research institute for industrial research and a training center in Freiberg (Saxony) .

history

German Research Institute for the Leather Industry (1909)

Today's research institute can be traced back to two institutions: on the one hand, the German Gerberschule , which was founded in Freiberg in 1889; on the other hand to the German Research Institute for the Leather Industry , which was also founded in Freiberg in 1897. Both institutions merged in 1938 to form the "German Research Institute and Technical School for the Leather Industry".

In addition to research, the task of these institutions was to train specialists in the tannery and leather industries for Germany and Europe, and in some cases also internationally. In 1948 the institute was renamed Deutsches Lederinstitut Freiberg ( DLI ). Since the mid-1960s, the institute's area of responsibility has been expanded to include plastics and synthetic sheeting.

As a result, the name of the institute was changed in 1974 to "Research Institute for Leather and Artificial Leather Technology". After the reunification in the GDR in 1990, the institute was privatized in 1992 and continued as a non-profit GmbH. Since then it has also been an affiliated institute of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg .

In 1992 an association was founded to promote the research institute for leather and artificial leather technology, which acts as a partner of the institute.

In 2001 the name was again adapted to the "Research Institute for Leather and Synthetic Sheets - FILK".

Institute journal

Between 1949 and 1964 the institute published its own journal on the subject of fur and leather under the name “Collected Treatments of the German Leather Institute Freiberg”.
