A research tower is a tower that is mainly used for scientific experiments . These include, for example, drop towers for creating short-term weightlessness such as the Bremen drop tower .

An unusual research tower was the BREN Tower in Nevada , which carried an unshielded reactor to simulate the radiation effects of the atomic bomb explosions in Hiroshima .

Measurement towers do not fall into this category .
