history

The beginnings

In 1962, Forstinger's first branch was opened in a 25 m² cellar. Owner and namesake was Norbert Forstinger. As this branch proved to be a business success, after three years he moved to Hütteldorfer Strasse in Vienna, as this location was larger and more centrally located. In 1986 a new central warehouse was put into operation on an area of 25,000 m², which provides 24,000 pallet spaces. All branches are supplied from here. In 1998 Forstinger took over the "PS-Markt" from BauMax , but had to replace a large part of the staff. In 1999 the company started operating its own workshops.

First bankruptcy

This expansion led to a liquidity problem in early 2001, so that bankruptcy proceedings had to be opened. In 2002 the company was taken over by two different private equity funds. In 2003 Forstinger successfully restructured and returned to car service. A year later, in addition to increasing sales, it was also possible to expand its market share; thus Forstinger Handel und Service GmbH became the market leader in car accessories and spare parts.

Change of ownership

At the turn of the year 2004/05 Bridgepoint Capital acquired Forstinger Handel- und Service GmbH. In March 2005, Forstinger began to expand abroad for the first time, to neighboring Slovakia. From 2006 to 2008, a branch network was gradually built up in Slovakia and further expansion in the west and south of Austria.

In September 2009 the Austrian investor group eMobile , formerly known as Better Place , acquired Forstinger Handel- und Service GmbH . In the third quarter of 2009, parts of Forstinger Handel und Service GmbH were transferred to EKAFIN Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH ; In 2011 the holding company Forstinger International GmbH was founded, the sole owner of Forstinger Austria GmbH .

The holding company was taken over by PS Markt GmbH in spring 2015 , with the shares of PS Markt GmbH being held by the private investor and former Forstinger managing director Klaus Müllner (now chairman of the supervisory board) and the Swiss-based CMC Capital Management & Consulting AG of the Forstinger managing director Martin Schmid Schmidsfelden. In 2016, the company headquarters and central warehouse were relocated from Vienna to Traismauer , in real estate owned by Martin Schmid Schmidsfelden's ICS Industrie Management Consulting GmbH .

Second bankruptcy

On January 31, 2018, the company's bankruptcy was filed again after the restructuring attempts of the past few years had not been successful. The debts were put at 31.2 million euros, with around 820 employees affected. In the end, 24.6 million euros were recognized. As a result, 18 branches should be closed, 750 of the 820 employees keep their jobs. In addition, the business with corporate customers was terminated and many rental agreements were renegotiated. At the end of May 2018, the judicial restructuring process was ended.

Today the company says it only has "around 700" employees in 88 branches, and sales are "around 100 million euros".
