Fort Cézon

The Fort Cezon is a 1694 by architect Vauban Resulting defense building in Landéda on the island Cezon at the Breton West Coast, covering about one-third of the island. It was expanded and rebuilt several times, especially at the time of Napoleon III. and under German occupation in World War II . Several restorations were carried out later, currently managed by the Association Cézon.

The island of Cézon has an area of approximately 28,000 m². The Fort Cézon takes up about a size of 11,500 m². At low tide , the island can be reached on foot for one to four hours, depending on the tidal range . The island is currently privately owned by the Association Cézon.

The round artillery tower stands on a ledge that is currently lowering in the middle. Among other things, the lowering can be clearly recognized by the steeply inward sloping steps at the tower's entrance. From the top of the tower you have a 360 ° view of the entrance to Aber Wrac'h . There is a well-preserved powder magazine below the artillery tower . There are several former barracks and 17 facilities on the site , built by the German Wehrmacht as part of the occupation during the Second World War.
