Fort de la Redoute Ruinée

The Fort de la Redoute Ruinée is a French fort on the Crête du Roc Noir ridge immediately west of the Col de la Traversette about 2.7 km south of the Little Saint Bernard .

The fort was built by the House of Savoy in 1630 and named Fort Traverset . It was destroyed during the French Revolution . Rebuilt between 1890 and 1902 according to the plans of General Séré de Rivières to militarily secure the border between France and Italy. From 1936 to 1940 it was reinforced again. In June 1940 it played an important role in the Battle of the Alps .

Today the facility is in ruins. It offers a view of the Mont Blanc massif , the lower lying Little St. Bernhard and the Mont Pourri .
