Forte Sperone

The Forte Sperone ( German  spur fortress ) is a fortress in the northern Italian port city of Genoa . The fortress is integrated into the defense line of the so-called Mura Nuove and is located on the summit of Monte Peralto. Its location at the junction between two city walls , one on the Val Polcevera side and the other on the Val Bisagno side , has influenced the architecture of Forte Sperone in a special way. The layout of the complex is angular and resembles a ship's bow , which is what gave the name of the spur fortress .

Because of its dominant position, the Forte Sperone was one of the most important structures in the fortress of the city of Genoa.
