The East-West Forum is a private association based in Bern .

The association was founded in 1994 as the successor to the Foundation for Democracy , the supporting foundation of the former Swiss East Institute . The Foundation for Democracy was continued - especially in the area of ​​publication for the promotion of an open society.

The East-West Forum, founded in Bern in 1994, took on other activities (events, press reviews) of the East Institute in order to support the transition from totalitarianism to democracy in Central and Eastern European countries. Among other things, a Swiss Media Forum was held annually from 1994 to 2010 to promote the transition in the media landscape in Central and Eastern Europe. Between 10 and 30 media professionals, mainly from Russia, and later also from the EU-27 countries that joined in 2004, took part in the forums . The media forums were accompanied by well-known experts from the Swiss media landscape.

In addition to the media forums, the association regularly held business forums, discussion events and lectures on regional studies; For many years (until 2005) the association was also responsible for the placement of Swiss specialists in Central and Eastern Europe for the purpose of professional training. Around 1,000 trainees were placed on behalf of the Swiss Confederation and the employment offices.

The FAO's mandate to maintain the Codex Alimentarius on the Internet for Switzerland lasted until 2009 .

The association carries out activities in cooperation with private clients, sponsors, but also together with the Swiss Confederation - SDC , Presence Switzerland and SECO . However, as a private association under Swiss law, the association is independent; the thrust of the activities is determined by the members.
