The Science & Environment Forum is an association of scientists in Austria with the aim of making interdisciplinary contributions to the sustainable development of the environment , society and economy . The association has a seat in Vienna and Innsbruck .

history

In 1985 the Forum of Austrian Scientists for Environmental Protection was founded, the name was later changed. Rupert Riedl was the founding president and longstanding president of the association . The decisive impulse for the establishment came from the so important for the Austrian environmental history events in the Hainburg wetlands at the turn of the year 1984 / 1985 , as environmental activists by non-violent occupation of the Danube floodplain forest east of Vienna a planned power plant construction at this point prevented and thus created the prerequisites for the Donau-Auen National Park .

The main goals and priorities of work were found where the two systems of science and politics collided: The aim was to incorporate scientific knowledge about ecological relationships into political action ( political advice , environmental legislation ) and to allow selective, partial use of scientific knowledge in the environmental field prevent.
