In the film industry, a four-quadrant movie or four-quadrant picture or 4Q for short is a film that appeals to both male and female viewers of all age groups. The division is made into younger viewers under the age of 25 and older viewers aged 25 and over.

For example, while film comedies predominantly address a younger, female audience or horror films target a younger, male audience, four-quadrant movies should reach all audience groups. This also increases the chances of having a high box office . However, due to a small production budget, a film can be very successful financially even if it only addresses one quadrant.

Since the decisions about going to a movie are often made by younger men and they either go to a movie with friends or their partners, they are considered the most important target group regardless of this.

Typical four-quadrant movies are, for example, many family films such as the animated films by Pixar Animation Studios . Four-quadrant movies aren't just limited to this genre, however. According to a study by the German Film Funding Agency (FFA), the 75 most successful cinema films in 2014 had, on average, a relatively even distribution across all age groups and both genders, regardless of genre.
