Four Nations
The Rugby League Four Nations (also known as the Gillette Four Nations for sponsorship reasons ) is a rugby league tournament that has been held since 2009 and replaced the Tri Nations .
Format and qualification
The Four Nations are a round-robin tournament with a final between the first and second place in which four nations take part. Three of them are already fixed at the beginning (Australia, England and New Zealand), the fourth varies. This is because there is currently no qualifying tournament created specifically for the Four Nations. So far the following teams have qualified:
- In 2009 France qualified as the winner of the European Nations Cup.
- In 2010, Papua New Guinea qualified as the Pacific Cup winner.
- In 2011 Wales qualified as winners of the European Nations Cup.
- In 2014 there was a qualifier between Samoa and Fiji, which Samoa won 32:16.
- In 2016, Scotland qualified as the winner of the European Nations Cup.
