Foy is a Belgian town and part of the municipality of Bastogne in the province of Luxembourg . It is on the N30 between Bastogne and Houffalize . 192 inhabitants live in the agricultural foy (as of January 2008), in the center of the village you will find the Saint Barbe church, built in 1958. The road through Foy was first laid out by the Romans .

Battle of the Bulge

During the Second World War , Foy was occupied by German troops for a few weeks during the Ardennes offensive . The American 101st Airborne Division finally besieged and liberated the village on January 13th. The attack on Foy was carried out by the Easy Company of the 506th Infantry Regiment. In 2001 the fight for Foy was filmed in the miniseries Band of Brothers .

Military cemetery and memorials

West of Foy in the village of Recogne is the German military cemetery Recogne-Bastogne , where 6807 members of the Wehrmacht are buried. A memorial erected nearby commemorates the US soldiers who were formerly buried there but were reburied in the grave field near Henri-Chapelle shortly after the end of the war .

To the east, in the wooded area of ​​the Bois Jacques, there is a memorial in honor of the fallen American soldiers of the Easy Company of the 506th Infantry Regiment, donated by Tom Hanks , among others .

Also to the east is the Bois de la Paix (Forest of Peace). The 4,000 trees in the forest were planted on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. They are dedicated to the American veterans who fought in the Ardennes, the Belgian soldiers and all civil and military victims of the winter of 1944/1945.
