Frédéric Marizy

Frédéric Marizy , actually Frédéric Christophe Henri Pierre Claude Vagnair, called Frédéric Marizy (born July 8, 1765 in Altroff , Moselle department ; † February 1, 1811 in Talavera la Vieja , Spain ) was a French general of the cavalry .

Live and act

On February 11, 1779, Marizy became a cadet in the royal army and joined the hussars . He was soon able to distinguish himself there and was also promoted quickly: sous-lieutenant (January 2, 1784), lieutenant (May 27, 1788) and capitaine (April 29, 1792). After further commendations, he became chef d'escadron (October 4, 1793) and chef de brigade (June 24, 1794).

After another change, Marizy joined the Armée du Rhin in 1795 and was wounded in a battle near Bopfingen the following year. After his recovery Marizy came to the staff of General François Antoine Louis Bourcier (1760-1828).

In the spring of 1803 Napoleon Bonaparte appointed him général de brigade and a little later Marizy came to General François-Étienne Kellermann and fought under his command a. a. before Austerlitz (December 2, 1805).

After a brief interlude in the staff of Marc-Antoine de Beaumont (1763-1830), Napoleon brought him to the theaters of war in Spain in 1809 . He was on the general staff of Marshal Édouard Adolphe Mortier and took u. a. participated in the siege of Saragossa (December 1808 / February 1809). He fought in front of Talavera (July 27/28, 1809), Arzobispo (August 8, 1809) and Buçaco (December 27, 1810).

On February 1, 1811, Marizy went on a patrol ride during which he was ambushed and killed near Talavera.
