Frösslunda

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frösslunda is a village belonging to the municipality of Mörbylånga on the Swedish island of Öland in the Baltic Sea .

The village with fewer than 50 inhabitants (as of 2005) is located in the southern part of the island and can only be reached from the eastern coastal road via two roads leading west from Norra Kvinneby . Directly west of the village is the Stora Alvaret , a vast, barren Alvar landscape .

The name of the village could refer to the god Frey (Freyr) or the goddess Freya with the syllable Frö , while "Lund" means forest or grove and is thus of pagan origin.

At the northern entrance to the village, an arched bridge spans the Frösslundabach . The Frösslundamossen moor lies south of the village . West of the town there is a small collection on which are several old, from limestone built Kartoffelkeller are. From the hill there is a wide view over the Stora Alvaret and the moor. In Frösslunda there is also one of the typical Öland windmills.
