An early abortion - from the Latin aboriri (to perish, to go away ) - is a miscarriage that occurs within the first 12-14 weeks of pregnancy . It is assumed that this is the case for about half of all fertilized egg cells in the first two to three weeks. Most early abortions go unnoticed as spontaneous abortions .
A miscarriage after the 12th to 14th week of pregnancy is called a late abortion , the distinction between early and late abortion is fuzzy and makes sense because of the different treatment: During the 12th to 14th week of pregnancy, either a curettage can be performed or spontaneous expulsion can be waited for , after the 14th week of pregnancy, one should wait for a miscarriage supported by labor-promoting and / or cervical softening agents, and then the curettage should be added to completely remove any remaining placenta.
A miscarriage after two previous miscarriages is also referred to as a habitual abortion , regardless of the respective gestational age .
causes
Malformed zygotes , around half of them due to chromosomal disorders , are the most common cause of these early abortions. Again, aneuploidies are often found here. In an examination of 776 miscarried fetuses, a. the following findings likely to have led to the miscarriage:
- 117 × triploidy ,
- 114 × monosomy X 45, X,
- 6 × 46, XX / 45, X,
- 41 × tetraploidy ,
- 16 × trisomy 2 ,
- 3 × trisomy 3 ,
- 6 × trisomy 4 ,
- 1 × trisomy 5 ,
- 8 × trisomy 6 ,
- 10 × trisomy 7 ,
- 13 × trisomy 8 ,
- 11 × trisomy 9 ,
- 10 v trisomy 10 ,
- 2 × trisomy 11 ,
- 3 × trisomy 12 ,
- 17 × trisomy 13 ,
- 15 × trisomy 14 ,
- 55 × trisomy 15 ,
- 101 × trisomy 16 ,
- 14 × mosaic trisomy 16,
- 1 × trisomy 17 ,
- 17 × trisomy 18 ,
- 11 × trisomy 20 ,
- 45 × trisomy 21 ,
- 42 × trisomy 22 .
It is also possible that the cause of the early abortion lies with the woman. These include: malformations of the internal genitalia , infections , endocrine diseases such as luteal weakness , obesity and immunological factors.
If early abortions occur frequently in a woman (habitual), there is a 3 to 5% probability of chromosomal abnormalities in one of the parents. Genetic counseling is therefore recommended.
