Fragmentocyte

As fragmentocytes or schistocytes corrupted one called red blood cells (RBCs) or their debris.

Fragmentocytes arise from mechanical damage to the red blood cells at obstacles in the bloodstream. You come z. B. in heart valve defects , mechanical heart valves , hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), thrombotic-thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), disseminated intravascular coagulopathy (DIC) , thrombosis , but also in the so-called march hemoglobinuria and some other diseases . Chronic doxorubicin poisoning can also cause fragmentocytes.

If there is an increased occurrence of schistocytes, one speaks of schistocytosis or fragmentocytosis .
