François Châtelet

François Châtelet (born April 27, 1925 in Paris ; † December 26, 1985 there ) was a French philosopher and historian of philosophy .

Châtelet attended high school in Lille and acquired his Agrégé de Philosophie in 1948. In 1961 he received his doctorate (Docteur ès lettres).

Among other things, he was the editor of a history of philosophy in several volumes and wrote books on ancient Greek philosophy , for example Plato , Hegel , Marxism , political philosophy and the history of ideologies.

Châtelet taught at the University of Paris VIII in Vincennes until 1982 and founded the Collège international de philosophie in Paris with Jacques Derrida , Jean-Pierre Faye and D. Lecourt in 1983 at what was then the Center universitaire expérimental de Vincennes , which later became the University of Paris VIII Professor at the Institut supérieur des carrières artistiques (ICART).

Châtelet was one of the founders of Arguments magazine .

He was married to Noëlle Châtelet , Lionel Jospin's sister .
