Françoise Brochard-Wyart

Françoise Brochard-Wyart (* 1944 in Saint-Étienne ) is a French physicist and professor. Her field of work is the theory of soft matter .

biography

From 1964 she attended the École normal supérieure de Cachan , where she graduated in physics in 1968 (Agrégation). She then worked at the Laboratory for Solid State Physics in Orsay on her dissertation under the supervision of Pierre-Gilles de Gennes . She received her doctorate in 1974 with a thesis on liquid crystals .

After working on polymer dynamics at the Collège de France , where she had been since 1977, she was appointed to a professorship for physical chemistry at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris in 1986 . The areas of work there are wetting and interfaces .

In 1991 she moved to the Institut Curie , where she headed the biophysics group . Since 2003 she has also been a member of the Institut Universitaire de France . She has been retired since 2014.

She is a niece of the crystallographer Jean Wyart .
