Francesco Calogero (director)

Francesco Calogero (* 1957 in Messina ) is an Italian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Calogero studied law and was active in cinema clubs; he was also one of the organizers of the film program during the Taormina Arte Festival . As a director of his own material, which is characterized by thorough research and expressiveness, he began with Super8 films, which were followed in 1986 by short films for the discerning audience. With the start of the new millennium, he turned to more commercial films. From 2003 to 2006 he organized the Costalblea Film Festival ; since 2005 he has been teaching film at the University of Messina .

His 1987 film La gentilezza del tocco won awards at the Bellaria and Avellino Festivals .

Calogero is also active as a theater and opera director.
