Francis David Tothill

Francis David Tothill (born June 10, 1936 in Pretoria ) is a South African historian and former ambassador .

Life

Francis David Tothill is the son of PWE Tothill. He attended Pretoria Boys High School . In 1959 he joined the foreign service. On September 24, 1960, he married Lynette Ann Barker.

From 1975 to 1980 he was the permanent representative of the South African government at the United Nations Office in Geneva . From 1980 to 1984 he was South Africa's ambassador in Buenos Aires . Tothill declared South Africa's neutrality in the Falklands War . From 1985 to 1987 he was employed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pretoria. From 1988 to 1992 he was ambassador to Canberra .
