Franckstrasse 2 and 4 (Ludwigsburg)
Franckstrasse 2 and 4 in Ludwigsburg is the address of a former factory owner's villa with an outbuilding, which is now a listed building.
History and description
Shortly before his death, Johann Heinrich Franck had initiated the move of his chicory factory from Vaihingen an der Enz to Ludwigsburg, where, among other things, a rail connection was available. His two sons Hermann and Wilhelm then had two private houses built in Ludwigsburg in Ludwigsburg south of Franckstrasse. The east of these two houses, which belonged to Wilhelm Franck, has not been preserved. Like a stable and coach house between the two villas, it was demolished after 1960 to make room for the Unifranck high-rise office building. Hermann Franck's villa, on the other hand, at number 4, has been preserved along with the pavilion at number 2.
Hermann Franck's villa was originally a more modest building, which was transformed by Albert Bauder in 1886/87 into a baroque building with ashlar structure. The fixed interior from the time of this redesign has largely been preserved.
The garden pavilion in the Swiss style dates from around 1880. It is a half-timbered building with a cross-shaped floor plan and a gabled arbor.
The old enclosure of the park is also still there.
