Franco Ferrari (theologian)

Franco Ferrari (* 1635 , † 1711 in Milan ) was an Italian Cistercian , abbot, theologian, librarian and scholar.

life and work

Ferrari entered the Cistercian monastery Chiaravalle Milanese and made his profession in 1652 . Then he studied in the monastery of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme (Rome) with Ilarione Rancati , whom he served as secretary from 1659. On his death (1663) he took over the important Biblioteca Sessoriana as librarian . 1671 he was selected by Pope Clement X to the adviser to the Congregation of the Index ordered. Later he was abbot of the monastery of San Giovanni Battista in Caravaggio (Lombardy) . He died in the monastery of Sant'Ambrogio (Milan) . The Ferrari library catalog was published in 1980. Since then, further works on the Sessoriana and its founders have appeared.
