The Weather Channel , or TWC for short , is a provider of weather forecast and weather-related news on cable and satellite television in the United States. It has been on the market since May 2nd, 1982. The company's headquarters are in Cobb County , Georgia .

The company was founded by media entrepreneur Frank Batten and weather announcer John Coleman.

The Weather Channel operates the online portal weather.com with weather forecasts and other information on the subject of weather. Since 2014, the provider has been delivering the weather data in Apple's iOS 8 for the in-house, native app “Apple Weather”, replacing Yahoo as the provider. Since 2015, they have also been used in a weather widget in the notification center of OS X El Capitan .

In 2016, the neoconservative media portal Breitbart used excerpts from the TWC to present anthropogenic climate change as a hoax in an article . TWC immediately denied it and published a "point-by-point retort" for the article. In the Breitbard article u. a. a map showing the global average temperatures over land. TWC showed that this was an incomplete representation: The majority of the earth's surface (around 70 percent) is covered with water, land surfaces heat up and cool down faster. If you take all the data sets together, it is shown that there was a temperature increase in the lower atmosphere in November 2016.
