Frank Hovde

Frank Hovde (born June 29, 1959 in Folling ) is a Norwegian chess player . He is European champion in correspondence chess .

At the age of 15 Hovde learned to play chess, in 1975 he started correspondence chess.

Correspondence chess

With victories in the master class at European level, Hovde qualified for participation in the 29th European Championship 1984-90. He won this undefeated with 12.5 out of 14 points. For this success the World Correspondence Chess Federation ( ICCF) awarded him the title of International Master in 1990 .

At the 10th Correspondence Chess Olympiad, he represented Norway on board 5. In the anniversary tournament of the Dutch correspondence chess association "25 Years NBC", he finished 5th. Then he intervened in the fight for the world championship. With his 2nd place in the 3/4 final of the 15th Correspondence Chess World Cup, he acquired the right to take part in a final. Currently (2006) he is playing in the ongoing finals of the 18th World Cup.

In 1994 he became a grandmaster in correspondence chess .

Close chess

In close chess, Hovde qualified twice for the finals of the Norwegian championship. He was ranked 12th in Oslo in 1980 and 4-7th in Steinkjer in 1985. He has an Elo rating of 2285 (as of August 2014), but is listed as inactive because he has not played a rated game since 1988. He reached his highest Elo rating of 2300 in July 1987.
