Frank Louis

Frank Louis (* 1966 in Hanover ) is a German sculptor and ceramic artist. Since 2006 he has been a professor in the plastic conceptions / ceramics course at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design Linz , Austria. Since March 2017 he has also held the office of Vice Rector there.

life and work

Until 1993 he studied at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld with Dieter Crumbiegel in the field of product design / ceramics. After three years of working as a freelance artist, he studied from 1996 to 2001 at the Braunschweig University of Art with Hartmut Neumann and Heinz-Günter Prager. His work is internationally present through solo exhibitions and participation in exhibitions. At the University of Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz, he introduces experimental ceramics and ceramic techniques to artistic project lessons. He teaches the "language of materials" in individual artistic lessons.

Awards

Louis has received several awards, including the first prize of the Richard Bampi Prize in 1996 , the 2000 Art Prize of the Gifhorn district, the prize in the building, sculpture and conceptual ceramics (installation) category at the XIXème Biennale Internationale de céramique contemporaine in Vallauris and an award at the 5th International Ceramic Biennale 2007 in Kapfenberg .
