Dieter Crumbiegel (born June 6, 1938 in Essen ) is a German artist ( painting , ceramics ) and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1957 at the old-language Burggymnasium Essen , Crumbiegel studied painting with Fritz Winter and Marie-Louise von Rogister , ceramics with Walter Popp , art theory and art sociology with Stephan Hirzel and Georg Hoeltje , art history from 1957 to 1961 at the State University of Fine Arts in Kassel and art education with Ernst Röttger . During the academic year 1958/1959 he received a vacation scholarship from the Max Beckmann Society and spent some time in the Liliamor house with its founder Lilly von Mallinckrodt-Schnitzler in Murnau. In 1959 he received, among other things, a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation . Crumbiegel finished his studies in 1961 with the 1st state examination. After the 2nd state examination in 1964, Crumbiegel was together with Robert Sturm at the pedagogical institute in Fulda lecturer for the training of art and craft educators at general schools with a focus on the construction of vascular ceramics. In 1971 he took over the class for sculpture and architectural ceramics at the State College for Ceramic Design in Höhr-Grenzhausen . From 1979 to 2001 he was a professor at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld in the design department, specializing in ceramic / porcelain / glass design. In 1979 Crumbiegel was appointed a member of the Académie Internationale de la Ceramique (AIC) / International Academy of liamorCeramic , Geneva. The German members of the Académie Internationale de la Ceramique (AIC) joined forces in 1983/1984 to form Group 83 - German Ceramists , of which he himself became a member in 1986.

He founded the "Krefeld School for Ceramics / Design" as a continuation of the Kassel School for Ceramics of his teacher Walter Popp, from which artists and designers such as Brigitta Heidtmann , Doris Kaiser , Frank Louis , Gerhard Hahn , Hans Kuretzky and Ursula Commandeur emerged . In 1983 he was appointed as a supervisor at Helwan University in Giza / Cairo . From 1971 he gave lectures on new trends in ceramic art in the Hetjens Museum in Düsseldorf.

From 1969 to 1978 he was a member of various award juries such as the jury of the Richard Bampi Prize of the Society of Ceramic Friends, the jury of the Prize of the Frechener Kulturstiftung and also in the competition management for the State Prize of the State of Berlin. Between 1975 and 1978 he was a member of the permanent jury of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft des Deutschen Kunsthandwerk and awarded the German Craftsman Prize in 1977.

In 1984 Crumbiegel finished his artistic work in the field of ceramic art and began a career in painting. In 1992 he and his wife Marlies Seeliger-Crumbiegel founded ateliers for painting, ceramic and glass design in Heinsberg . From 1979 to 1985 both won the “ Art in Building ” competitions of the state building authorities in Bonn and Emden . They also carried out their designs for the Institute for Mathematics and Data Processing at Birlinghoven Castle , Bonn, the community center of the city of Wirges / Westerwald, the Bad Honnef water control station , the Siegburg district court , the Cologne employment office and the Borkum marine station .

In 2012 Marlies Seeliger-Crumbiegel died in Heinsberg. Dieter Crumbiegel donated the Marlies-Seeliger-Crumbiegel Art Prize in her memory. Crumbiegel is a member of the Federal Association of Visual Artists , BBK Aachen / Euregio eV As a member of the Künstler-Forum Schloss Zweibrüggen eV in Übach-Palenberg , Crumbiegel was its chairman from 2014 to spring 2019.

Crumbiegel is widowed, lives and works in Heinsberg / Rhineland.
