Frans Koppelaar
Frans Thomas Koppelaar (born April 23, 1943 in The Hague ) is a Dutch painter .
From 1963 to 1969 he attended the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague. Koppelaar moved to Amsterdam in 1968 .
His landscape paintings and Amsterdam cityscapes (paintings) evoke memories of the tradition of the Hague School , George Hendrik Breitner , Isaac Israëls and Jacob Maris . Koppelaar's realistic pictures emerged at the same time as a figurative movement in Dutch contemporary painting, which emerged in the 1990s as a reaction to the limited conceptual art and the overly inflated art theories of this period. Over the years, his style evolved into a simpler, more direct approach. Since 1984 he has not identified with any art movement.
Koppelaar is also known as a portrait painter .
